Why Is Webflow Getting More Expensive?

2 September 2026

Webflow merged its CMS and Business plans into a single Premium plan in May 2026. Here is what changed in the pricing, and why you might not get a say in when it hits your site.

Key takeaways

  • Webflow's CMS and Business plans merged into one Premium plan in May 2026, with the CMS item limit rising to 20,000 across 40 Collections.
  • Old CMS-plan sites move from about $23 to $25 a month at renewal, with less bandwidth included than before.
  • Sites on the old plans are auto-migrated to Premium at their next renewal, or after any billable change made past June 29, 2026 – whether you ask for it or not.

If your Webflow invoice went up this year, you are not imagining it. In May 2026, Webflow folded its CMS and Business site plans into a single Premium plan and reworked pricing across every tier. Here is what actually changed, and what it means if you are budgeting for the year ahead.

What changed

The new lineup is simpler on paper: Starter (free), Basic ($15/month billed yearly), Premium ($25/month billed yearly), and a Team plan starting at $2,500/month on an annual contract. Premium replaces the old CMS and Business plans and now includes 20,000 CMS items across up to 40 Collections as standard, up from the old 10,000-item ceiling.

Whether your bill goes up or down depends on which plan you were on before:

  • Old CMS plan customers move from about $23/month to $25/month at renewal – a small increase, but it comes bundled with less bandwidth (50GB instead of 100GB).
  • Old Business plan customers on yearly billing with moderate traffic and no CMS add-ons will mostly see their bill drop, since Premium folds in what used to be a paid add-on.
  • Basic plan customers are largely unaffected – but it is worth remembering the Basic plan still does not include the CMS at all, at any price.

The part that catches people off guard

It is not really the few dollars a month. It is that you do not get to opt out. If your site is still on the old CMS or Business plan, Webflow migrates it to Premium automatically – either at your next renewal, or the moment you make a billable change after June 29, 2026. You will not be asked.

For most sites that is a non-event. For a handful, it is a prompt to actually look at what they are paying for a tool they might be outgrowing anyway.

What this means if you are budgeting

Run the numbers over three years, not one month. A Premium site at $25/month is $900 over three years, before workspace seats (each additional editor is its own paid seat) and before any CMS add-ons you are still paying for separately. Compare that to a one-time move to a platform you fully own, and the math changes depending on how long you plan to keep the site.

If you're not sure whether that means a static export or a real CMS, here's a simple way to tell which one your site actually needs — and if you want to see how the numbers played out for a real migration, this before/after case study has the PageSpeed scores to prove it.

If you are already checking whether Webflow is still the right tool for your site, that question is worth a real answer – not a guess.
